The importance of play and sensory activities.

Sensory activities are a gateway to improved self-regulation for many people. Babies, toddlers, kids, teens, and adults all need sensory play. Our world is made up of so many sensory experiences and using play to engage with them has a lot of benefits. Your sensory system can help you calm down.

In our hectic, modern adult lives, many of us focus so heavily on work and family commitments that we never seem to have time for pure fun. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we stopped playing. When we carve out some leisure time, we’re more likely to zone out in front of the TV or computer than engage in fun, rejuvenating play like we did as children. But play is not just essential for kids; it can be an important source of relaxation and stimulation for adults as well.

Play helps:

-Relieve stress.

-Improve brain function.

-Stimulate the mind and boost creativity.

-Keep you feeling energetic and more.

Give yourself permission to do whatever you want. Be spontaneous, set aside your inhibitions and try something fun, something you haven't done since you were a kid, perhaps. And enjoy the change of pace.

For me, one of the best ways of Play, is creating art.  And I combine that with sensory activities. One that I love to do is finding textures in nature that I’m drown to and take macro photos of it after i feel the texture.  Is a playful exercise because often I’m on the floor or in very weird positions, playing with my camera and capturing what my simple sight cant capture. Usually I feel the object, maybe I listen to it, I observe the object, and I can even smell it.  The perfect combination for sensory play! I invite you to try it out!
